Innovation Stage:  Education and Professional Enhancement

Objective

The Sessions facilitate informative exchange with an aim to create innovative approaches to college and university education. The aim is to identifythe foundations for an innovation curriculum for college and university students thus enable the European universities to create world-class innovators of tomorrow. The track seeks to address inter alia the following questions:

  • What policies are unleashing the full potential in innovation education?
  • What do universities need to know about industry and business priorities to determine future education curricula?
  • How partnerships between industry and academia are changing the way innovation happens in Europe?
  • How are leading universities changing the landscape of education in ICT-enabled areas?

The highlight of the Education and Professional Enhancement Track is the EAI Student Innovation Competition. It isthe European premier student technology competition thatprovides an opportunity forstudents to demonstrate their ideas and talent. The aim of the competition is to highlight and reward innovative student research projects focusing on a new product, service or industrial processes, based on a project with a significant contribution to innovation in Europe.The competition provides an opportunity forstudents to show their products, ideas and solution regardless their research is at a prototype level and/or ready for commercial application. Students must demonstrate creativity, innovation and attention for detail.

The competition is held to:

  • identify best ideas from young talent
  • link young talent industry, business, private investment, and research
  • promote new fresh ideas to prospective companies
  • reward inventive European research and innovation projects
  • promote a new product, industrial process, service, based on a project with a major contribution to innovation within the ICT field in Europe

Organisation of the Education and Professional Enhancement Track

The sessions in this track feature leading European educators who will provide perspectives, analysis and insight on the challenges and opportunities of establishing a European innovation agenda. Also, the session formats include student presentations featuring competition finalists. Session formats in this track include:

  • interactive panel discussions chaired by experts in education
  • workshop(s)
  • student presentations
  • announcement of Student competition winners
  • a panel devoted to student career issues
  • Student Job Market

  • Online submission and review process of student entries afford students an opportunity to disseminate their work among the whole EAI Community, receive members’ feedback, comments and offers for collaboration.
  • Best student submissions are selectedfor presentation at the Summit and best demo videos provided by students are stored at the European Union Digital Library (EUDL) that is an Open Access.
  • Selected students are featured in The Innovator and considered for the Young Innovator Award. Alternative prizes shall include cash awards or trips to the sponsorship company, if sponsorship is provided.
  • Contributions made by speakers and workshop participants are published in EAI Innovation Briefs.
