Student Innovation Competitions

Aims of the EAI Student Competition:

Competitions run under the auspices of EAI provide a way for student members to connect to the community and impact humanity through the creative application of technology and engineering. The aim of EAI’s Student Innovation Competition is to highlight and reward innovative student research projects focusing on a new product, service or industrial process, based on a project with a major contribution to innovation within the ICT field in Europe. The competition provides an opportunity forstudents to demonstrate that their research is at a prototype level and/or ready for commercial application.

EAI‘s prestigious competitions reward development skills and creativity and provide peer recognition and wide dissemination of the projects through its publications.

The aim of the Competition is to highlight projects from students and:

  • Reward inventive European Research and Innovation projects
  • promote a new product, industrial process, service, based on a project with a major contribution to innovation within the ICT field in Europe.

Why take part in a student competition?

The online abstract submission and review process afford students an opportunity to disseminate their work among the whole EAI Community, receive members’ feedback and comments. The best contributions posted on the Portal are selected for EAI awards. They will be also featured and appear in EAI publications. The track chair may also decide to feature hot topics in special sessions.

How to take part in a student competition?

“Call for Summary” solicits cutting-edge innovation contribution for the Summit via an open callwherebystudents’ contributions (summary, video, photos, web site, etc.) are received via Community Portal and reviewed for acceptance on continual basis. Entries are evaluated by the expert review committee on technology relevance, innovative edge, business approach, practical applicability and timing to commercialisation. The Volunteering Committee are provided access to submitted abstracts to conduct the review process, propose summary statements for presentation and vote for the best contribution.

What needs to be submitted?

  • Summary which may be supplemented by a demo video and/or photos, web site, etc.
  • Full paper (complimentary prior the event)

Judging criteria

The expert review committee will evaluate the human, technological, legal, financial and commercial aspects of each project according to the following suggested criteria in order to select ideally two winners, a Community winner and a Sponsored winner.

Awards

Submissions will be considered by the Volunteering Committee of Experts for the Best Student Competition Award. In addition, the Community will vote for the best contribution on the EAI Portal prior and during the event. Prizes may include complimentary registration for the following year’s Summit or alternative prizes such as cash awards or trips to the sponsorship company, if sponsorship is provided.
