Prof. Imrich Chlamtac, President of EAI, speaks at the United Nations Economic Commission in Geneva

The President of European Allaince for Innovation, Prof. Imric Clamtac has been invited as a speaker on Globalizing innovation through a grassroots movementat the Policies for Innovation and Knowledge-based Development in the 21st Century, Building Strategies for Regions of Innovation, held in Geneva, 12-13 April 2012 organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Economic Cooperation and Integration (UNECE).

The European Alliance for Innovation is a dynamic eco-system for fostering ICT enabled innovation to improve European and Global competitiveness and for the benefit of society.

The mobilisation of regional assets can make an important contribution to overall national innovation performance. Policymakers, innovation practitioners and representatives of international organizations, industry associations and academia will participate in this Applied Policy Seminar to discuss:

  • The economic, institutional and policy trends that influence the emergence of regions of innovation
  • How innovation policies can incorporate a regional dimension to increase its impact
  • The interplay between national and regional policy interventions
  • The scope of regional innovation policies and the strategic choices to foster innovation-based competitiveness
  • The suitable policy mix to support regional innovation
  • How collaboration between innovation stakeholders can be promoted to deliver effective governance structures and efficient policy design
  • The international aspects of regional innovation strategies 

In particular, President Chlamtac will present Trentino Region as a case study on regional innovation success. 

The objectives of the fifth event are to discuss and address topical substantive issues related to the programme of work of the Team of Specialists on Innovation and Competitiveness Policies (TOS-ICP), to review the outputs and activities carried out since the fourth session, including in conjunction with other relevant thematic areas under the programme of work of the UNECE Committee on Economic Cooperation and Integration (CECI) and to agree on the implementation plan for  2012-2013.
